Leadership abilities passively affect an entire stack of units (up to six units sharing the same hex on the world map), but only if the unit that has the ability is currently "leading" the stack, i.e. in the leftmost slot.

It is impossible to declare a stack leader manually. A player's Leader will always lead any stack they are in (even if they have no leadership abilities!). Otherwise, the Hero possessing the most leadership abilities will lead the stack. Ties are resolved using the default stack ordering rules.

Some leadership abilities can be disabled during combat by killing the unit that is providing them.

There are a few morale-related abilities that are distinct from leadership abilities: they affect the entire stack without requiring the unit that has them to be the stack leader. (See 'Other Party Boosting Abilities' below.)
