Prelude[]

Of Ice and Fire - Athla Map

Athla Map from "Of Ice and Fire"

"Brisska, once an icy paradise to its Frostling population, is now a baking desert. We must take the region back from the Tigrans of the Cult of Yaka, and push back their magic before this hungry heat can spread any further. Archdruid Rowlar will take command, his knowledge of Tigran strategy should prove invaluable." - Arvik the Dark

Introduction[]

Tigrans and the Cult of Yaka[]

Of Ice and Fire

The cold ice and hot sands meet

Knowing little of the Tigran race, I have spent many hours in discussion with Rowlar to try and understand the purpose behind this sudden invasion. Rowlar explained that Tigrar society has been going through a period of great upheaval, the rise of the Cult of Yaka among the populace had been both rapid and unexpected. The cultists are fanatics obsessed with bringing about Yaka's return through the spread of the burning deserts he favors.

Rowlar is an Archdruid, and he knows well what the ultimate consequence of the Cult's actions will be. If they manage to turn the coldest parts of Athla into the hottest, the climate of the entire world will change. Balance must be maintained, a world of endless sands would be a dead world and all would suffer for it. Rowlar hasn't travelled here to help us, but to get our help. It is his own people he is trying to save.

Brisska has been taken by the Sorcerer Ankhnaton, the leader of the Cult, and his loyal Warlord Ja'Vasqa. Although it was given to me to take the region back, I decide to make Rowlar the leader of this campaign. He knows the strengths and weaknesses of the Tigrans, and has a natural affinity with nature in different climes. His warriors will push the enemy back so his magic can heal the world. We will freeze the Tigran advance and return Brisska to its natural state.

Ella[]

Of Ice and Fire - Ella

With the Tigrans defeated, Brisska has returned to Frostling rule and the people have begun to repair the devastation that has been dealt to the lands. This endless struggle back and forth...It is like a wheel that cannot stop turning. Battles between brothers, between races, between empires.. the living versus inevitable death. What purpose does it all serve?

Ella, High Queen Sanhild's sister, has proven useful in the time since we set her free. She has a lot of information about what has been going on outside our borders: Melenis has a much larger influence than we knew. I am not the only Necromancer she has fostered.

Her followers now work to break the Seals of Power, weakening the very barriers that protect the world. With the energy that this releases they kill and reanimate as many people as they can to fuel their ghoul armies.

If this continues it will not take long before the whole of Athla is a realm of the dead.

Signs[]

  • "The Three King Tombs" - Sign in front of the three tombs of the Forgotten Kings, near Trekingsheim
  • "The frozen plains of Sharr Widd" - Sign outside of Fort Claw
  • "Here lies Lord Wicksedge, a courageous man. His last words: 'They couldn't hit a mammoth at this distance!'" - Sign placed halfway between an Inn and Ankhforth
  • "'Hurrah, Boys! Let's get these last few cats then head on back to camp. Hurrah!', Gonzag the Visionary, Goblin Chief, last words. Rest in peace." - Sign placed halfway between Aasmut and Marshuq
  • "The Frozen Falls" - Sign at the bifurcation of the Frozen Falls
  • "Endurik Pass" - Sign at the beginign if the Endurik Pass, near Ankhseat

Storyline Walkthrough[]

Ankhnaton: "Rowlar! You heretic! All Tigrans must bow before the might of Yaka! Surrender immediately!"

Rowlar: "You are a weakminded fool if you honestly belive I, or any intelligent Tigran, would ever kneel for Yaka again. Let alone for those who claim to speak in his name!"

Ankhnaton declares war the Player.

Ja'Vasqa declares war the Player.

Race Happiness[]

  • Time: No turn limit
  • Hint

"I will mainly lead Tigrans here, and since I have to fight other Tigrans I would be wise to show mercy to the cities I conquer and absorb them, instead of destroying or migrating them. I would do well to strengthen Tigran Race Happiness. Some enemy cities may even betray their leader if they see how happy Tigrans are under my rule."

Hearth of the Arctic[]

  • Time: No turn limit
  • Hint

"If I can grow my borders to encompass this Heart, my Tigrans will no longer fear the ice and I can begin spreading the arctic cold, which will be a huge bonus when fighting the Cultists."

Defeat the Cult of Yaka[]

  • Time: No turn limit
  • Victory Requirement

"The Tigran Cultists are advancing on the North with the intention of melting the ice. I need to defeat them here in Brisska before they cause too much damage."

Arvik must survive[]

  • Time: No turn limit
  • Victory Requirement

When approaching any of the Forgotten Kings the Quest "Three Forgotten Kings" will be added.

Three Forgotten Kings[]

  • Time: No turn limit
  • Difficulty: Medium

"The spirits of three Frostlings, former kings whose names have been forgotten, want you to clear out their tombs and find them all so they can return to their resting place."

When approaching the Forgotten King near Arvik's Landing:

Forgotten King: "I sense you are a friend, so I will show myself to you. I am one of the sorcerer kings of Trekingsheim. We have been driven from our tombs. All these ages of exile. Could you end our suffering? Once the evil presence disrupting our rest has been dealt with I can return and you will have my gratitude."

When approaching the Forgotten King near Marshuq:

Forgotten King: "I yearn to return to my place of rest at the side of my brethren kings. Help me, and you will have my gratitude."

When approaching the Forgotten King near Erbel Hold:

Forgotten King: "Greetings friend of the Frostlings. Honor the wishes of a forgotten king, allow me to return to my tomb at Trekingsheim. I would be most grateful."

After each clearing of a Tomb, if a Forgotten King is already found for it:

Forgotten King: "My resting place has been cleared, finally I can rest."

After clearing the three Toombs and finding the tree Forgotten Kings:

Forgotten King: "It is done, our exile has ended. We thank you. Receive our frozen blessing, the lands far around our tombs shall return to ice. Receive our strength, in the shapes of these summons who will serve you. Receive our knowledge, in the skills we will bestow upon you."

The Quest will be completed, causing the climate of the Frozen Plains of Sharr Widd (from Aasmut to the outskirts of Waxenith) to become arctic. The Player will receive an army near the Forgotten Kings tombs, consisting of one Frost Dragon, two Watchers, one Node Serpent, and one Phantasm Warrior. Additionally, the Summon Frost Elemental and Frost Missile spells will be unlocked.
